A RIM Seminar will be held on Wednesday April 1 @ Noon in TSRB 132-133. It will be on 2-D sonar imaging for underwater terrain mapping.
2-D Optical and Sonar Imaging for Automated Undersea Visual Survey and MappingShahriar Negahdaripour AbstractIn this first part of this talk, I review some of the complexities in underwater vision and certain developments in visual survey and underwater 2D and 3D mapping. In the second part, I will present opti-acoustic stereo imaging as a new paradigm in 3-D reconstruction of objects in underwater from 2-D sonar and optical images. BioShahriar Negahdaripour received S.B., S.M., and Ph.D. degrees in Mechanical Engineering, in 1979, 1980, and 1987 from MIT. After 4 years in the EE Department at the University of Hawaii in Manoa, joined the University of Miami in 1991, where he is currently a Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering. His research career has been devoted primarily to the development of various vision technologies for underwater applications, funded by NSF, ONR, Sea grant, DoD, NOAA and various Naval Research Labs. |
