The Institute for Robotics and Intelligent Machines presents a seminar by Ella Atkins of the University of Michigan. The event will be held in the Marcus Nanotechnology Building, Rooms 1116-1118, from 12:15-1:15 p.m. and is open to the public.
Ella Atkins is a professor in the Department of Aerospace Engineering at the University of Michigan, where she is director of the Autonomous Aerospace Systems (A2SYS) Lab. Atkins holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in Aeronautics and Astronautics from MIT and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Michigan.
Atkins previously served on the Aerospace Engineering faculty at the University of Maryland, College Park. She is past-chair of the AIAA Intelligent Systems Technical Committee, an AIAA Associate Fellow, an IEEE senior member, a small public airport owner/operator (Shamrock Field in Brooklyn, Michigan), and a private pilot.
Additionally, Atkins served on the National Academy’s Aeronautics and Space Engineering Board (ASEB) from 2011 through 2015, was a member of the Institute for Defense Analysis Defense Science Studies (DSSG) Group from 2012 through 2013, and served on an NRC committee to develop an autonomy research agenda for civil aviation from 2013 through 2014.
